District
7690 Rotary Against Drugs Speech Contest
was held on Saturday, February 21, 2009
at Guilford Technical Community College.
Sixteen high school students representing
various schools throughout our district
footprint participated. Each student presented
an inspiring speech directed to their peers.
The topic was "What Must Be Done To
Prevent Drug and Alcohol Abuse in the US".
Winners will advance to Multi-District Competition
to be held in Chapel Hill on Sunday, March
22, 2009. In the event one of the top 3
cannot attend, an alternate will attend
in their place. Multi-District participants
will be Ellen Amos, Dylan Westrick and Susan
Thomas. Hillary Akers will not be participating
as a representative.
Additionally, the first place winner will
present her speech at District Conference
in April. A special thank you to all of
the clubs that sent a participant to the
competition. Each club was well-represented
with a motivated, passionate student that
worked very hard to prepare for this contest.
